LYS help 01:32 am
tinydancer7
on the 21st of December i will be visiting my boyfriend's parents with him. there is a local yarn shop down there. i've never been to one of those places before. i work at an AC Moore, so i only get my yarn there. i'm very excited about this LYS experience... but i have a few questions. it's very close to Christmas, and i need to be financially prepared.

so...

1. what kind of things should i expect? what would you suggest i look for?
2. how much should i expect to spend?
3. how do i prevent myself from blowing my entire paycheck/Christmas shopping money on this excursion?

Little Girl's Hat! 08:13 am

Hi all! It's been ages since I've posted in here, but I just finished a hat for my 4 year-old cousin. It turned out beautifully and much better than expected. It only took me a couple of hours and the longest part was trying out various patterns and then finally getting frustrated and deciding to improvise and do a hodge-podge of different pieces from different patterns). I am now in the process of making a matching scarf to go with it. I made it all out of Lion Brand Watercolors because it was on sale at Hobby Lobby for $2.88 a skein. If I have any yarn left over, I plan on making a capelet for her. I think it would be adorable. Anyway...only one picture for now and when the scarf is finished, I'll post another picture of the set.

I've been working on a few Christmas decorations for myself. First are my so fun Christmas Caroling mice...and I also have a picture of a gingerbread man! Both were really easy to make.

if you pair wool with a novelty yarn such as fun fur, will it still shrink and felt in the washer?

thanks!

Hat with a Brim 11:54 pm

I've been asked to make a hat with a brim. They're popular right now, and the one in question would look something like this. I can't figure out how to make the brim though- I found one pattern for a crocheted baseball hat, but that brim is too long (I'm guessing I'd be able to modify it, however). I checked the FAQs and Googled quite a bit, but didn't come up with much. I found two patterns- one with plastic in the brim and one without, so I'm wondering which is better. So if anyone has any tips or ideas on the best way to make the brim, that would be fantastic.
Thanks!
